The 2010 MAX-1 Hard Armour Plate (HAP) represents the culmination of the latest advances in ceramic and composite hard armour, without impacting on cost.

High performance HAPs of a similar specification generally use Silicon Carbide (SiC), VestGuards MAX-1 HAP combines advanced ceramic technology with cutting edge construction to achieve improved overall performance at the same weight, but at a third of the cost of monolithic SiC armour.

Monolithic plates, whilst proven in testing, can be compromised in the field. The MAX-1 uses a network of smaller ceramic plates combined with our unique backing process, which greatly surpasses the performance of monolithic plates both in tests and in the field.

The current standard for multi-shot plates, the NIJ 0101.06 level III, is met and exceeded by the MAX-1. In addition this plate can be configured to offer NIJ Level IV with multi-shot capabilities.

Performance
The MAX-1 has been fully certified by the U.S. National Institute of Justice through rigorous laboratory ballistic testing as well as physical and environmental performance assessment. Development continues on the MAX-1 to maintain its world beating status and batches are regularly tested to ensure compliance with a safety margin superior to any other plate on the market.
